Blue Woman in Pink Space
Interpretation:
I found myself here.
I drifted this way.
Having no fear,
I chose to stay.

This painting was a different painting which I didn’t like any more, so using the same colours as the original picture (ultramarine, magenta and white). I painted over as much as would give me a neutral background. Then, wanting to paint a single figure, this neutral-looking woman appeared in blue.
The quiet of that blue against the magenta seemed to define her mood.
Because I had over painted a canvas, the oil became quite thick to cover up all traces of the brush marks drawing the lost figures, therefore a lot of this painting has been done with a palette knife, so the physicality of the paint itself is very much one of the subjects here.
(Can something so abstract be a subject?)
Against the thickness of the paint, the blue woman is poised. She is in contact with the edges of the canvas and is quietly thinking her own thoughts, relaxed and comfortable
